EVENT & DETAILS
January 18, 2008
Hanoi, Viet Nam
Join Global Community Service Foundation, distinguished leaders from government, local businesses and multi-national organizations for a joyful evening of giving to benefit the ethnic minority children of Quang Tri and their villages.
This extraordinary evening will be a unique blend of Southeast Asian culture, cuisine and artistry. Highlights will include a live auction of weekend getaways, antiquities from Viet Nam and Burma, and performances by popular entertainers.
Hosted by Global Community Service Foundation and supported by distinguished Vietnamese leaders, generous local and multi-national companies, and the People’s Assistance Coordinating Committee, the Adopt-A-Village 2008 Global Community Service Foundation (GCSF) Gala and Fundraiser seeks to raise at least $100,000 to advance the socio-economic development of the ethnic minorities in Quang Tri Province by building cultural community centers and pre-schools.
Quang Tri Province is the location of the former demilitarized zone (DMZ)—which previously separated the country into north and south, and is one of the poorest areas in the country. Much of the land is virtually unusable because of contamination from landmines, unexploded ordnance, dioxin, and severe weather conditions (droughts, typhoons, and floods). Despite the adverse conditions facing ethnic minorities, educational opportunities raise prospects for development. The importance of preserving the cultural heritage of the ethnic minorities has prompted the Vietnamese Government and the international business community to partner with GCSF to help more than 7,000 members of the ethnic minorities living in Quang Tri Province to a path of greater self-reliance.
Peter Ryder CEO of Indochina Capital Corporation will be the Master of Ceremonis for this exclusive event.
The GCSF Viet Lotus Award for exceptional community service will be awarded to Al DeMatteis and Vi Peterson.
Mr. DeMatteis, head of Delta Construction, is particularly noted for Operation Smile and as well as for his work with the Street Children in Da Nang.
Ms. Peterson is noted for the work of her foundation, The Alliance for Safe Children (TASC) which is spearheading a public health movement to raise awareness in and funding for child injury prevention programs in Vietnam and other developing countries. |
